I was driving home for Easter when my sister called. First thing she said: "Sorry to interrupt your podcast." My first instinct was stop picking on me!!! Then I laughed… she wasn’t wrong (see above pod reco).
In all seriousness, it took me a few days and a few walks without a podcast in my ears to see this one.
Over the past few months I've been taking in a lot of input. Podcast after podcast and article after article. I love when I find a real gem, but at some point all of it is quietly competing for attention.
Here's what happens when you consume without processing or deciding: everything starts to feel equally important. Every idea has weight and every take could be right. But when everything sounds right, nothing actually stands out.
For a Chief, that’s a problem. Your job is literally to distinguish what matters from what doesn't. Your principal needs to hear what’s most important and urgent, not just loud today. You can't do that when you've lost contrast.
So lately I've been driving home in silence. No podcast. No music. Just some damn space.
Good ideas are everywhere, but judgement is awfully hard to find.
